On July 9, USDA-APHIS positively identified an EAB-infested Ash tree in the city of Herndon, VA (Fairfax County). Because the county is surrounded by EAB-infested states (MD, WV and PA), an eradication effort is unlikely. However, the city's swift response and placement in a federal EAB quarantine area are good signs that local governments are taking these new detections seriously. With this new infestation hitting in the middle of July, just as many families are setting off on their "one-tank vacations," the County's quick posting of it's own "don't move firewood" messages is really impressive. Way to stay on top of things, Fairfax!
