Picnics in the local park. The big tree in the center of the playground. The neighbor’s treehouse. The woods near town where the Boy Scouts go hiking. These are the “between” places – not wilderness, but not the backyard, where we enjoy trees. They’re just as threatened by invasive insects and diseases as the big forests.

  • The old tree at the playground sheltered kids at play for decades. Then it got infected, and had to come down. Now the playground’s too hot, and none of the kids want to play out there.

  • Sometimes it’s a pirate ship. Sometimes it’s a secret club. Sometimes it’s the Bat cave. It’s a treehouse: a place where imaginations run wild and young brains grow. The kind of play space you can’t buy – it grows organically. And once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

  • The beautiful local places – county parks, University Arboretums, shady bike paths- the threat from invasive pests and diseases to these spots is real. Please help prevent these threats from coming to the places we all enjoy, before it’s too late.Need more reasons to not move firewood?
