The expense of the Asian longhorned beetle infestation in Worcester is looking very high.

The Asian longhorned beetles that infested an area in Worcester, MA, are not going to be cheap to exterminate. In this article by the Boston Globe, they quote an estimated $24 million dollars in the first year alone!

Because this infestation is pretty big, many homeowners will be affected- and their property values will probably be reduced. While in this case the problem was most likely started by industry related movement of wood products, it does underscore the issue that forest pests might be small, but they have huge costs.
