A worldwide scramble is underway to stop the spread of the swine flu, which has killed over 100 in Mexico and threatens a global pandemic. Governments from New Zealand to New England are putting into play extra regulations on travel; Mexico canceled school nationwide.

Unlike this widely publicized problem, our forests suffer from the spread of foreign maladies in the dark shadows. Diseases like sudden oak death and insects like emerald ash borer are killing millions of trees- right now. Time for a focus on wood flu! If not by governments, at least by us, the people. Stop the spread.

And remember- always wash your hands, and don't move firewood.
