There are now two Don't Move Firewood billboards in New York State! Yes, we are really excited. These billboards are the result of a partnership between the USDA-APHIS, The Nature Conservancy, and the crew at Don't Move Firewood.
While the Asian longhorned beetle has not been found in upstate New York, there are tiny pockets of ALB infestation in New York City and some surrounding communities in New Jersey and Long Island. These infestations are well controlled and are not suspected to have spread. However, because New Englanders are avid hikers and campers, the fear is that firewood from Worcester might have spread the beetle from Massachusetts into upstate NY- a reasonable, and scary, scenario.
