Baseball story, twice is nice

The baseball bat to emerald ash borer connection was made again today on NBCwashington.com. I'm glad this story is getting some good press, because it is important to understand that forest insects are a problem in so many ways. Not moving firewood protects, in a very real way, the places we love- even if those places are baseball diamonds.

Canoe paddle connection

Some of the best wooden canoe paddles have historically been crafted out of solid pieces of white ash. The long straight grain and the flexible nature of the wood have been the standard for wooden paddles, particularly for long flat water trips. What a shame if we all end up with aluminum, plastic and carbon fiber. -Shep Evans, Stockbridge, MA.
