A recent article in the Edwardsville Intelligencer titled "Ash trees facing threat from beetles" proved quite prescient.

The July 31st, 2008 article in the Edwardsville Intelligencer titled "Ash trees facing threat from beetles" proved quite prescient. In it, I reported that the emerald ash borers aren’t here (Missouri) yet.

Well, it didn’t take long!  Just a few bad pieces of firewood taken from an infested area to one that wasn’t infested have now brought the dreaded Emerald Ash Borer to our fair State. It will be sad to see the ashes that make up the forests of the Ozarks destroyed by something we carelessly (or even purposefully) let out of the bag (or log).  I guess when all the beautiful ash trees are gone from the Arch grounds, it might help us to remember not to take firewood from our homes to other campgrounds.
