Perhaps it was inevitable; the area that ALB has infested is much larger than originally thought.

The discovery of new areas with Asian longhorned beetles in the greater Worcester region  (detailed in today's article in the Boston Globe) should come as a disappointment, but not a shock.

The EAB infestation introduced into Maryland in 2003 has been confirmed as being a lot bigger than was previously known.

Maryland Department of Agriculture officials have discovered an emerald ash borer (EAB) site in Charles County, MD. While finding the beetle in a new county is unfortunate, it appears the infestation is still part of the original population introduced into Maryland in 2003. Read more about this latest find in this Maryland Department of Ag September 4th 2008 news release.

In some areas of the country, the problem of Emerald ash borer is now more "when", not "if."

If you live in the lower part of Michigan, parts of Illinois, or lots of other spots that are hard hit by the emerald ash borer, you know that this pest kills a lot of trees. And that impacts lives in ways that are hard to envision unless you are there.
