EAB was recorded in a new Maryland County, Charles, earlier this month, but the media have yet to pick up the story. Aside from one small blurb in the Washington Post, I have yet to hear any reports or see the usual flurry of emails about the find. Yes, the new sighting is just across the county line. But given the intense amount of work that's been carried out to stop the initial infestation, it's discouraging that the beetle continues to march ever-onward. Perhaps now that hurricane season is in full swing, energy prices are high, and we have exhilarating new candidates to capture all our attention, reports of yet another new invasive species find are just too dull to bother with? Who knows. Regardless, I'm glad our MDA folks continue their diligent search (despite the low-glam nature of the work), and know their efforts are appreciated by many of us, if not the media.
