The firewood regulations in New York that restrict movement of wood to 50 miles from the source are now permanent.

Firewood is not the problem. The firewood itself is harmless- no more of a problem than a tree falling in the woods. It is only when people MOVE firewood that it becomes a problem. And then, it can be devastating.

With that in mind, I am pleased to see that the firewood regulations proposed by the NY DEC are now permanent. To see these, which in summary restrict the movement of firewood to within 50 miles of the cutting location, visit this PDF and go to page 4.

Remember- there is nothing wrong with cutting and using firewood locally. But when you move firewood, you risk accidentally spreading deadly tree diseases. It is just that simple.
