Our trip to Mount Snow was filled with interesting people and great information!

Don't Move Firewood's trip to Mount Snow, Vermont, home to the 2009 Eastern Meeting of the National Ski Area Association, was a hit! We've already had two ski areas contact us (thanks, Berkshire East and Hunter Mountain!) and have a lot of good leads on other ski areas that might be interested in educating their guests to not bring firewood when they travel for recreation.

I thought it might be good to review why we are doing outreach with the NSAA-

  1. Trees are vital to the safety, enjoyment, and feel of a ski area and its surrounding region.
  2. Non-native pests (that kill these trees) mostly travel on firewood.
  3. Most ski areas receive a lot of travelers from other states, counties, and far-off cities.
  4. The kind of person that skis or boards is the kind of person that also camps, hikes, fishes, hunts, travels in an RV, and otherwise recreates all year 'round.
  5. If we can get the ski areas to educate their guests, they are helping protect not just themselves, but the whole region!

Many thanks to Dave Byrd, Judy Dorsey, and the great staff at NSAA for hosting our booth and short talk. We are looking forward to making more connections at the upcoming meeting in Colorado!
