Interestingly the trees don’t look sick, even when perforated by the beetle larvae, until they die completely. So an unwitting homeowner might not even realize that the reason a big branch fell in his backyard is an infestation of the beetle. And then if he cuts up that branch and takes it to his summer home or hunting camp...
